Running Dog Woodworking is a partnership between Kerry Deane and Dennis Cloutier, a husband and wife team. All the woodturnings we sell are handmade in our home studio. We believe in simple, elegant forms which showcase the natural beauty of wood. Wherever possible, our wood is sourced from the urban forest, from trees that have fallen or had to be removed for some reason. Our favorite wood is our local Bigleaf Maple which can have some of the wildest and highest figure of any wood available.
Our other passion is cooking. Much of our work is kitchenware, and all of our kitchen items are functional and comfortable to use. Our pepper mills use the Crushgrind mechanism, the best mechanism in the world. It is a durable mechanism with an unrivaled ability to grind a high volume of pepper with minimal effort – a mill meant for daily use in the kitchen. Our salt shakers echo the shape of the pepper mills, and a pair create a sculptural grouping. Our wooden salad bowls are finished with walnut oil, a practical, food safe and easily maintained finish. Our french rolling pins have a classic tapered shape that works like a charm, ideal for rolling a pie crust or pizza. Our bottlestoppers have whimsical, unique shapes, made by the equivalent of doodling, but at the wood lathe. They are idea for corking a bottle of wine or olive oil. All of our kitchen items are made to be practical - that they are also beautiful takes them another step to functional art.
Please have a look around.
